Quick start
The first things to do, in five minutes, right after LimePanel has finished installing.
What you have
At the end of the installation the summary shows three things:
| Item | Example |
|---|---|
| Panel address | https://panel.yourdomain.com:8443 |
| Administrator | the email you passed with --admin-email |
| Password | generated by the installer and shown only once |
Write the password down now: it will not be shown again. If you lose it, reset it from the server:
panelctl users reset-password --email you@yourdomain.com
If the panel's host name does not point to the server yet, the panel starts anyway with a temporary certificate and gets its Let's Encrypt certificate on its own as soon as DNS is ready.
1. Sign in and secure your account
- Open the panel address and sign in with the email and password from the summary.
- Settings → Change password: pick your own.
- Settings → Two-step verification → Enable: scan the key with an authenticator app and keep the recovery codes somewhere safe.
2. Turn on the server's mail
Server → Mail service → Apply: enables authenticated sending (ports 587 and 465) and DKIM signing. Then publish the server's SPF record in DNS.
3. Set up your name servers
Server → Server DNS: if you use your own name servers (for example ns1.yourdomain.com), create glue records for ns1 and ns2 at your registrar, pointing to the server's IP.
4. Review the packages
Server → Packages: three packages come out of the box (Starter, Business, Pro). Check their limits or create your own. Limits on sites, domains, databases and mailboxes are enforced when accounts are created.
5. Publish webmail (if you installed it)
Server → Mail filter → Webmail → Publish. From then on, customers open webmail with one click from their mailbox page.
6. Keep the secret key safe
Copy /etc/limepanel/secret.key off the server. It encrypts every secret the panel stores: without it they cannot be recovered.
7. Check your license
You installed with the free 15-day trial key from your customer area: it is bound to the server's public IP, with every feature and unlimited accounts, and the 15 days start at the first installation. Once you buy a license, activate it from the panel or from the command line (available from version 1.0):
panelctl license status
panelctl license activate LP-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
If you entered the server's IP at checkout, the trial converts itself at the next check: no key to copy. The details are in Licensing.
What next
- Create your first customer and account: see Resellers and WHMCS.
- More than one server? See Multiple servers and DNS.
- For a full diagnosis of the server in one command:
panelctl doctor
